Every spring, as the morning dew still blankets the ferns and sunlight filters through the branches, a quiet but flavorful tradition returns to the cottages: morel mushroom hunting. This mysterious and delicious mushroom attracts fine gourmets and nature lovers alike.
Located on the edge of a forest renowned for its mycological richness, the cottage offers guided walks in search of this precious forest treasure. The activity is led by Gérard, a retired forest ranger and a true living encyclopedia of the undergrowth. “Morels aren’t easy to find,” he says with a smile. “You need the eye, the instinct… and a little bit of luck.”
With baskets in hand and boots on their feet, participants head out at dawn to explore prime spots: damp clearings, shaded edges, and forgotten old orchards. Gérard teaches how to identify true morels, avoid toxic species, and, most importantly, how to respect the fragile ecosystem where they grow.
Claire, who spent a few days at the cottage with her children, was delighted by the experience: “It’s like a real-life treasure hunt. The kids loved it, and we even found a nice handful of morels for dinner!”
Upon their return, walkers can hand over their find to Juliette, the cottage cook, who offers to prepare the morels in a homemade cream sauce, served with a steaming risotto or a fluffy omelet.
