Archery for kids

Located just a few steps from the cottage, a small wooden stand surrounded by straw targets welcomes both beginners and experienced archers. “The idea came to me while watching kids play with sticks in the forest,” says Maxence, the cottage owner and former medieval archery practitioner. “I wanted to offer an activity that was fun, accessible, and connected to nature.”

Each session begins with a short briefing on safety and basic techniques, followed by progressive exercises. Children enjoy aiming at balloons or foam animal targets, while adults test their precision at different distances. Equipment is provided on-site, with bows adapted to all body types.

Sophie and Marc, a couple staying for the weekend, shared their enthusiasm: “We didn’t think we’d get so hooked! In one hour, you forget everything else; you’re just focused on the arrow, the wind, the target… It’s almost meditative.”

The activity can be done solo or in small groups, and friendly mini-competitions are sometimes organized at the end of the day over a glass of local apple juice. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, everyone leaves with a smile… and sometimes even a souvenir arrow gifted by Maxence himself.

With this new addition, the Gîte de la Clairière continues to expand its nature activities and invites its visitors to awaken their inner Robin Hood.
